Google has recently released the preview for the Android Oreo – Android O. It is said to be the next version of Google’s mobile operating system which is rumored to release in the coming summer. One needs a Google Pixel, a Google Pixel XL, Nexus 6P, Pixel C to get started to using this operating system.

Even for those who do not possess a Google branded phone, the Project Treble announced by the company is an initiative which will make sure that Android O can work on more devices than the previous operating systems.

The beta version already had a varied list of new features both in the visual and performance oriented fields and even if the new version does not have a lot of changes, it is worth waiting for.

Picture in Picture (PiP) mode:

This feature enables one to keep on supported app to remain lying on the top of another separate app as already seen on the ipad. This makes multi-tasking easier and better than split-window mode. It operates as desired while watching a video on YouTube.

Faster boot times:

Google unveiled that Android O will bring a faster boot time to all the phones which run on the software. Not just the operating system, but the apps too become faster on the phone.

Restricted background activities:

This feature makes the app functions running in the background a second priority enhancing the battery life. The Doze function will get a boost in the new software which will help save battery. Android O will manage to squeeze out some extra hours from the phone.

Notifications:

The notifications feature has been boosted again. Nougat allowed the users to take some action within the panel of notifications. The users could toggle settings easily without having to dig deeper and deeper into the menus.

Contextual press-to-hold options:

The android O can now recognize the app that is best for the character string the user is working with. One can also highlight a phone number and go straight into the dialer.

Adaptive app icons:

A unified visual style is seen across the apps and Google has strict design guidelines one must adhere to. The animation demo shown in the release event was great and the new app icons will animate on the basis of user interaction.

Boosted audio performance:

The Android O is supporting the LDAC, Sony’s hi-resolution Bluetooth audio codec. It will help the users to tweak the bitrate for audio and need not necessarily buy best wireless headphones.

Notification dots:

Android O doesn’t remind the user about pending alerts on the screen but instead directs the attention to where most required. The emoji icons have also changed from older versions to rounder face icons. Some new emojis have also come along like the starstruck, fairy, mermaid, throwing up, giraffe and some more.
